About

Will Adler is making his first foray into fictional writing in 2026, with his new novel: Passions.
After some years as a journalist, Will took a different turn, gaining a PhD in sociology and subsequently pursuing an academic career. Like most sociologists, he has always been interested in the interactions between culture and social change, and how the world around us affects our individual choices. Some of those concerns are reflected in Will’s new fictional output, though without the sociological jargon!
Will Adler on ‘Passions’
‘While my aim with Passions has been to craft an intricate yarn, with engaging characters and retro detail from an era (the 1970s) before internet, mobile phones and social media, my personal and professional interests inevitably informed the story-line. Behind the narrative, there are two threads. First, how people’s everyday passions drive their actions and choices, and consequently how these choices shape lives and the shared social world. Second, the antagonism between the traditional Left and emerging movements for gender and sexualities equity that was a feature when the novel is set, but continues to this day.
‘Whether readers choose to enjoy the novel as an entertaining story of sex, drugs, politics and punk rock, or look beneath is up to them. These serious concerns are never permitted to distract from what is a fast-moving, engrossing and entertaining read, in which the unfolding narrative is driven inexorably forward through the conversational exchanges and other interactions between characters.
I hope you enjoy reading Passions as much as I enjoyed writing it.’
